Hermanus Whales & Stony Point Penguins Day Tour

Experience one of South Africa's most breathtaking coastal adventures on this full-day tour from Cape Town or Stellenbosch.

Activity Description

Experience one of South Africa’s most breathtaking coastal adventures on this full-day tour from Cape Town or Stellenbosch. Discover the charm of Hermanus, world-renowned for its Southern Right whales, and visit the Stony Point penguin colony in Betty’s Bay all while soaking in spectacular ocean and mountain views along the way.

Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel or meeting point. Travel along the iconic Clarence Drive, winding between rugged mountains and the deep blue ocean. Enjoy photo stops at Kogel Bay and Rooi-Els, two of the Cape’s most scenic viewpoints.

Arrive at Stony Point Nature Reserve, home to one of South Africa’s largest colonies of endangered African penguins. Walk along the wooden boardwalks to observe these delightful seabirds up close as they waddle, preen, and dive in their natural environment.

Duration: ±45 minutes

Continue to the charming town of Hermanus, often called the whale capital of South Africa. Enjoy a relaxing lunch at a seaside restaurant, offering panoramic views of Walker Bay — a prime spot for whale sightings right from the cliffs.

Lunch options include fresh seafood, local wines, and classic South African dishes.
Dietary needs can be accommodated.

Duration: ±1 hour

From June to November, Southern Right whales migrate to the sheltered waters of Walker Bay. Choose between a leisurely stroll along the cliff paths for land-based viewing or an optional 2-hour boat-based whale watching cruise (advance booking required). Licensed operators ensure a respectful and unforgettable encounter with these gentle giants.

End the day with a scenic drive back to Cape Town via Sir Lowry’s Pass, offering sweeping views of False Bay and the Helderberg Basin. Stop at the summit for photos or enjoy an optional coffee break before returning to your accommodation.
