Disa Pools Hiking Experience – Kromrivier, Cederberg Park
Activity Description
Experience one of Kromrivier’s most refreshing hiking routes on a gentle trail that showcases river landscapes, mountain views, and the natural beauty of Cederberg Park. Ideal for families and relaxed hikers, this route offers an easy escape into nature with rewarding pools at the end. As one of the most popular easy-to-moderate hikes in the Cederberg, it’s perfect for visitors seeking river scenery, natural swimming spots, and fynbos-rich mountain terrain.
The hike begins at the Kromrivier trailhead, following a gentle path along the river. The route is surrounded by indigenous vegetation, striking sandstone formations, and views of the rugged Cederberg landscape.
Duration: ±2–3 hours round trip
Distance: ±5–6 km
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Highlights: Disa Pools, river scenery, fynbos vegetation, seasonal Disa orchids, swimming opportunities
Walk alongside flowing water, pass rocky riverbanks, and spot the vibrant Disa uniflora (red orchid) in season — the flower for which the pools are named. Several natural pools along the way offer opportunities to cool off.
The highlight is arriving at the Disa Pools — a series of clear, refreshing rock pools perfect for swimming, relaxing, or enjoying a picnic while surrounded by tranquil mountain scenery.
